Understanding Income Tax & PAYE in South Africa
Pay-As-You-Earn (PAYE) is South Africa's income tax system that spreads your yearly income tax into monthly deductions your employer submits to SARS. This income tax calculator applies rebates automatically and shows your estimated net income after tax and UIF.
Common PAYE Questions
What is PAYE and how does this income tax calculator work?
PAYE (Pay-As-You-Earn) is South Africa's income tax system for collecting tax from employees. Your employer deducts income tax from your monthly salary and pays it to SARS on your behalf, based on progressive tax brackets and age-based rebates. This calculator uses the same methodology.
How much income tax will I pay on my salary?
Your income tax depends on your total annual income and age. For 2025/2026: incomes under R95,750 (under 65) pay no income tax. Higher incomes are taxed progressively from 18% to 45% across different brackets, minus age-based rebates.
What are the 2025/2026 tax brackets?
